student_welfare.jpgIn addition to our strong pastoral systems, our office and support teams provide you and your child with essential support.  They are often the first link between home and college providing the voice on the telephone to answer your queries and requests.

If your child is unwell, within college our Student Care Officer will provide first aid and general care.  Beyond this we will contact parents in order to arrange transport home, to the home of your nominated adult carer or, in emergencies, to the hospital.  We do not administer any medication, unless prescribed by a doctor or on written instructions from parents.   Forms for parents to authorise the Student Care Officer to administer medication are in the college planners, additional forms can be obtained from the college office.  We work closely with the college nurse who is based at the Alfreton Primary Care Centre and who provides weekly ‘Open Door’ sessions for all students on a Tuesday.

ecm.jpgWe would appreciate it if for most day-to-day matters your first contact is with your son or daughter’s Form Tutor, either by letter or via the Student Planner which all students possess.  There is space in the Planner especially for parents’ comments.

May we respectfully remind you that college offers “first-aid” not continuing health care.  If your child has an illness please take them to the doctor or pharmacist for treatment.

Every Child Matters

  • Every Child Matters (ECM) is a government initiative which focuses on YOU.
  • Growing up being healthy and well educated will give you a better chance in life.
  • The Government and College have a responsibility to help you do this.
  • Whatever your background or circumstances, you should have the support you need to: Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Make a Positive Contribution and Achieve Economic Well-being.
  • Every lesson, every activity, everything you do in college time is designed with these 5 goals in mind.
  • The college provides support through teachers, mentors, SSM’s and TA’s as well as a variety of activities which will enhance your personal development and make your learning enjoyable.
  • What happens outside college has an effect on how well you do in college. The college works with and talks to other organisations that you will come into contact with as a young person in order for you to achieve.
  • In order for you to get the best learning experience, the college provides a set of rules which are designed to help you learn life and social skills and help you prepare for life after college.
