Dear Student and Parent

I am pleased to offer you this Options information to help you, as a family, discuss and decide the best option choices to follow over the next two years.   For the first time since beginning school, you as a student have genuine choice about a substantial part of your study time.

We have taken a lot of time to produce an option pattern that allows a wide choice for students of all abilities and aptitudes.  There is a good choice of vocational options as well as traditional subjects and we have suitably broadened our Arts subjects to reflect our  success in attaining Specialist Arts College Status.

All courses can be furthered to post-16 and enable our students to look forward to:-

  • further study here at Alfreton Grange Arts College’s expanding Sixth Form

              or

  • further study at other colleges

As you will be aware from the media there is an increasing expectation, soon to be a statutory requirement, that young people stay in education or training until at least the age of 18.  Experience shows that this is a wise life-long investment and affects earnings for a lifetime.

Your son/daughter needs to talk to teachers and their tutor about their option choices and I hope that you will make it a family priority to attend our combined Parents Consultation/ Options Advice Evening on Monday 29 March 2009 at 3.45pm – 6.30pm in the Arts Theatre.  Mr Jones, Deputy Headteacher, will clarify the Option process and subject teachers will be able to discuss your son/daughter’s progress in each subject.

Your son/daughter should make appointments for you.
