A college is a community engaged in the process of learning. It is a student’s work place and the uniform is your clothing for the working day. The dress code is an outward sign of the sense of unity and purpose which a college community possesses. This gives the students a sense of identity and belonging. It allows students to focus on learning and achievement, as well as being practical and non-competitive.
Body Piercings / Jewellery
The wearing of one small round stud per ear is permitted. All other forms of jewellery are deemed inappropriate to the school environment and in some cases, especially body piercing, could be classed as hazardous.
Where an infringement is seen, the student will be required to remove the relevant item or rectify the problem immediately. Refusal to do so may incur further sanctions. Students will remove their body jewellery and deposit it in the general office safe for parents/guardians to collect by appointment/arrangement with the office staff.
For Health and Safety Reasons
-
Sandals or open toed shoes may not be worn.
-

The Governing Body, whilst accepting the discretion of parents/carers would prefer denim, leather or suede jackets/coats not to be worn as either outdoor or indoor clothing. Any clothing which has written words or graphics which might cause offense to others, or in any way undermine the ethos of the college, is not acceptable.
-
Years 12 / 13 – There is no formal Y12/13 uniform. Students are expected to wear smart clothing as might be required in an office environment.
-
Cost: The total cost of a full uniform is usually considerably less than casual wear and reduces the pressure on students and parent/carers to purchase the latest fashionable items of clothing at inflated prices.
